Science has come quite a long way since the early days of genetic testing over 60 years ago. Our greater understanding of human genetics combined with advanced genomic technologies has allowed researchers to scrutinize numerous genes at once to create genetic profiles that can be scanned for DNA alterations. This comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) is quickly becoming an invaluable diagnostic tool for oncologists treating various cancer forms. In addition, CGP can provide more significant insights into the drivers of tumor mutagenesis, informing researchers when developing new therapies and physicians when selecting the appropriate treatment course.
