Most sensory neurons, including pain-sensing neurons called nociceptors, are found in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG). In this GEN webinar, Dr. Tavares-Ferreira will discuss the technical details of spatial sequencing on human DRG using 10x Genomics’ Visium platform. She will describe how she has mapped gene expression in various neural cell types and identified different subtypes of neurons in DRG. She will describe specific drug targets and how their expression differs between species. Dr. Theodore Price will describe why this work is important for the pain and neuroscience fields and how the data his lab has generated can lead to non-opioid pain killers. He will focus on how novel spatial technologies help researchers push molecular targets toward nomination for clinical development.
